Scope
This article covers residential air to water heat pumps with Carel Controller (Models HSS 030, 060, 080 V2 and V3 LS and LM).
Trigger
Customer is either unable to switch operating mode, or Heat Pump does switch to combined operating mode (like DHW + Space Heating).
Operating Mode Change
Heat Pump needs to be swtiched off before changing operating mode. This is to allow enough time for the reverse valve to reverse refrigerant and give compressor certain time off between the two modes (especially when going from Heating or DHW heating to Cooling.
Step 1
Navigate to M01 in order to swtich HP OFF and press the enter button to confirm
Step 2
Modify the operating mode to the desired one and press the enter button to confirm. Go to M04 (User Mask) and then to U00
Available Operating modes: Heating (Space Heating), Hot Water (DHW heating) and Cooling (Space Cooling). Heat Pump allows us to combined heating and cooling with DHW heating (Hot Water +Cooling and Hot Water + Heating).
Notes: If, after doing step 1 and step 2, HP is still not switching to from individdual modes to combined modes (or the opposite), Unit Mode settings need to be configured for single or combined modes.
"Unit Mode" Setting Configuration
To do the configuration, Press on the Program (Prg) button and enter the password (ask your dealer for the password) and press enter. Navigate to M09 (OTHER PARAMETERS) and press enter.

Navigate to 0t00 (Unit Mode) sub-menu
Unit Mode can be set to either Two function (Means space heating in winter and space cooling in the summer) or Three function (means space heating plus DHW heating in winter and Space Cooling plus DHW heating in the summer).
Automatic Switching between Summer and Winter modes
The automatic switch from Heating to Cooling can be automated via the HP integrated ambient temperature switch. For this option to be enabled, Ambient temperature switch needs to be enabled and a seasonal temperature set point and a dead band (between seasons) need to be defined. Under User mask (M04):
Go to AmbTemp Switch (U10):
This Control allows user to enable/disable heat pump operating modes (mainly Space Heating and Cooling) based on outdoor temperature. When outdoor temperature is above “AmbTem Switch Setp.” assigned value, Heat Pump goes into cooling mode (default 20°C). When outdoor temperature drops below “AmbTem Switch Setp.” (20°C) – “Amb Temp.diff”(4°C), Heat Pump goes into heating mode.
